DARLING

At first known as Groene Kloof. It was laid out in 1853 and named after Sir Charles Henry Darling, Lieutenant-Governor of the Cape 1851-1854. From 1901 it was administered by a village management board and achieved municipal status in 1955.

Old School
Old School, 27 Pastorie st – The older section was built in 1896. It was extended in 1912. The school remained in these buildings until 1974. It is now two private houses.

Mission Church
Mission Church, Langfontein St – Inaugurated on 29 July 1928. Now a private home.
Ormonde
Ormonde (originally Langfontein), Langfontein St – This house was built in 1908 by Pieter van Breda of Geelbek at West Coast National Park. It remained in the family until 1937. It was renamed ‘Ormonde’ in honour of a champion Van Breda racehorse.  
House 25 Long St
House 25 Long St – built circa 1908. It was owned by the Tienie Versveld family from Slangkop. Subsequently it became the manse for the Presbyterian Church until 1942.
The Old Forge
The Old Forge, Long St -m dated 1910. Now a bar and restaurant.
House 13 Station Rd
House 13 Station Rd – Built in 1853 for Dr Chadwick. In 1883 it became the residence of Dr Gerrit Nieuwoudt, the first mayor of the municipality of Darling. He practiced in the town for more than 40 years until 1927.
Gateway DR Church
Gateway DR Church – The original church was erected in 1857. It was struck by lighting and was destroyed completely in 1957. Subsequently rebuilt.
Old station building
Old station building, Arcadia st. - It was built of corrugated iron in 1903. Better known as Evita se Perron, belonging to the SA comedian Pieter-Dirk Uys (28 September 1945), known as the character Evita Bezuidenhout. Declared a Heritage Site.
Klawervlei
Klawervlei – part of Groote Post-.  Presumably built by Van Reenen in 1803. It became the property of William Duckitt in 1815. It remained the property of Duckitt until 1957.  A bell-tower stands atop a rocky outcrop.  Declared a National Monument.
VOC Fort

Hildebrand Monument
Hildebrand Monument, on farm Kraalbosdam 6 km north of Darling – this obelisk commemorates field-cornet CP Hildebrand of Lichtenburg Tvl who died on 12 November 1901 during the most southern excursion under Genl Manie Maritz during the ABW 1899-1902.
