GOLDEN GATE HIGHLANDS NATIONAL PARK

Golden Gate Highlands National Park - the name is derived from the sandstone bluffs which look golden at sunset. The park was proclaimed in September 1963.
Brandwag Buttress
Brandwag Buttress rock formation (Sentinal buttress) – About 100 metres in height at an altitude of about 2050 m.
Van Reenen Family Cemetery
Van Reenen Family Cemetery – This is the Van Reenen family cemetery. John van Reenen, the famous discus and shotput athlete is also buried here.
Dinosaur Center
Dinosaur Center – Known by the Sotho name Godumodumo Dinosaur Center. Built in the form of a serpent. Exhibits of dinosaur eggs and fossils of dinosaurs found in the Park environment. Serve as a tourist and scientific research centre. Officially inaugurated on 22 June 2025 by the Minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille.
Site of dinosaur nesting 
Site of dinosaur nesting site – Cutting in road close to centre known as Rooidraai. Estimated to be 200-million years old. Believed to be the oldest known dinosaur nesting site in the world. The eggs were from the plant eating Massospondylus Carinatus, a midsized dinosaur.
Farm Kerks Vly
Farm Kerks Vly, Rd to Phutaditjaba on Golden Gate Reserve – Took 4 years to build. Inscriptions 1884 SJA Raath and Kerks Vly. The Boer War Treaty between General Prinsloo and the British forces was signed at this house. The fact that the house was not burned down during the war is ascribed to a portrait of Queen Victoria found hanging on the wall.
