HAARLEM

On the R62 Road in Langkloof. Originally laid out in 1856, it was taken over by the Berlin Missionary Society in 1860. The mission station was named Anhalt-Scmidt, but the village already been named Haarlem, presumably after the city in Holland.

Evangelical Lutheran Church – The cornerstone was laid on 27 January 1878 and the church were consecrated on 14 August 1880. The erection was initiated by Rev Friedriech Prietsch and the building thereof was supervised by missionary Howe and Heinrich Christoph Markotter. Built in the shape of a Greek crucifix. This building was declared a National Monument on 26 May 1978.  The Monuments description was attached in 1981.
