KAAPMUIDEN

Founded in 1895. The name is derived from its situation where the Kaap River flows into the Crocodile River. It means Kaap mouth. Mainly a railway junction between Pretoria/Maputho, the Barberton line and the Soekmekaar line.

Kaap River Bridge Avoca
Kaap River Bridge Avoca – close to railway siding Avoca on the Kaapmuiden – Barberton railway line -circa 1896 – The steel superstructure was manufactured by the Pletterij Den Haag in the Netherlands. The bridge was completed by the firm Mowat and Still in 1895. On 28 September 1900 the bridge was damaged during the last phase of the Boer retreat during the ABW. It was repaired by the Royal Engineers

Tonetti Church
Tonetti Church – about 3 km from town on dirt rd to Tonetti station – This is a Catholic chapel. Within the churchyard are graves for Agostino Tonetti (1879- 1962) anf Ines Tonetti (1883-1971) and 7 other graves. The oldest death 1940. Date of church not known. The building is fully fenced in.
