Named after Coleman, a transport driver who must have driven along this route several times. His ox wagon broke down for a period on the slopes of a hill. Other drivers refer it to Coleman’s hill. A railway station was built nearby and got its name from the hill. The first diamond was found in this region in 1908 and Kolmanskuppe grew into a little town. The town became deserted in 1944. The tourism potential of the dilapidated houses was conducted and in 1980 guided tours started. Renovations of the buildings commenced. It was officially opened for tourism in 1990.
