Established in 1896 on the farm Langlaagte. Presumably named after the district in London, which is also on the west of the city centre.

Christ Church, park Rd – This Anglican church was built in 1897. The cornerstone was laid by Mrs Sidney Jennings on 3 February 1897. The first Rector of the Parish was Rev RH Bellamy
