SEAPOINT

Suburb of Cape Town. Together with Green point it was a municipality from 1839-1913 but was then incorporated into the municipality of Cape town. The name dates from 1776 and refers to an encampment there by Sam Wallis and his men to obviate an outbreak of smallpox in Cape Town. Sea point is the contact between an igneous rock outcrop and a sedimentary rock, first recorded in 1818.
Queen Victoria Fountain
Queen Victoria Fountain, Cnr Regent St & Kloof Rd – The fountain was erected by the women of Green and Sea Point to commemorate the 60th year of the reign of Queen Victoria – June 1897.
Sea Point Evangelical Congregation Church
Sea Point Evangelical Congregation Church, Cnr 142 Main Rd and Marais St – designed by John Parker. It was built in 1896.
Geological Exposure
Geological Exposure, Beach Rd - Below the sea wall the rocks show geological features. The contact between dark shales of Malmesbury Series and lighter-coloured Cape Granite. The slates penetrated by granite veins. The occurrence was first recorded in 1818 by Clark Abel. It was also described by Charles Darwin, who visited the site in 1836. Declared a National Monument on 28 August 1953.
