Laid out on the farm Waterval by H Tobiansky and named after his wife Sophia. For a period this township was named Triomf.
Church of Christ the King
Church of Christ the King, Ray Street - Designed by FLH Fleming, the church was consecrated on 8 September 1935. The clocktower was built circa 1936. This Anglican Church was used by Father Trevor Huddlestone. This area was known for the removal of the black people to Soweto.
Empilweni
Empilweni - House Dr AB Xuma, 73 Toby St – This house was built in 1934 for Dr Alfred Bitini Xuma, a medical doctor. One of the only houses not destroyed during the forced removals.  Elected President General of the ANC in 1940 until 1949.
St Joseph's Home for Children
St Joseph's Home for Children - Hermans st, This orphanage was one of the buildings which survived the demolition of the area during the forced removals. The cornerstone for the house was laid by Audrey Karney on October 1922
